Mysterious new species Found on the Indo-Myanmar Border

Researchers at Mizoram University and the Max Planck Institute for Biology in Tubingen, Germany, have discovered a new species of flying gecko along the Indo-Myanmar border. And the creature has been named after the Northeastern state of Mizoram!

Flying geckos, belonging to a subgenus called Ptychozoon, are endemic to Southeast Asia. Also known as gliding geckos or parachute geckos, these reptiles can jump between trees. They cannot fly and instead glide across using the flaps of skin on either side of their body and webbed feet that serve to increase surface area.
