Numaligarh Refinery Achieves Milestone with Successful Completion of Challenging Subansiri River HDD

  • Assam

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has achieved a significant milestone in its Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP) by successfully completing one of the largest Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations globally. The challenging task involved pulling a 26-inch diameter pipe across the complex 3510-meter-long profile length of the Subansiri River, connecting Lakhimpur in the North and Majuli in the South. The NREP project, considered the single largest investment in Northeast India under the Government of India’s ‘Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for North East India,’ includes laying a 1635 km cross-country pipeline from Paradip Port in Odisha to Numaligarh. The successful completion of this HDD marks a crucial step forward, with NRL aiming to finish the entire Paradip Numaligarh Crude Oil Pipeline (PNCPL) project by mid-2025.”
