Nine people, including a former superintendent of police and five other police officers, have been detained by the Assam Crime Investigation Department after a businessman claimed they were attempting to extort money from him.

Businessman Rabiul Islam claimed that he was wrongfully detained by police in the Bajali district and that they demanded Rs 2.5 crore in payment. Islam claimed in his complaint that the police threatened to kill him in a “encounter” and justify it by claiming he had “links with Pakistani and Bangladeshi jihadi elements.”
