Veterinarian stabbed with 2-wheeler key in throat dies

A veterinarian named Khanjit Medhi was stabbed to death with a scooter key by one Subhash Basumatary at a restaurant called ’77’ in the Borbari area here on Saturday night.

Medhi, who was also a businessman, was sitting with the restaurant owner, who was his friend, when the fight broke out.

Police said accused Basumatary’s mother, Usha, was working at the restaurant for the last couple of months and was supposed to get Rs 4,000.

“A spat broke out between the restaurant owner and Basumatary when the latter demanded the money. When the brawl turned violent, Medhi intervened to stop it. In the process, Basumatary attacked Medhi in his throat with his vehicle keys,” police added.

Medhi was rushed to Pratiksha Hospital from where he was shifted to GNRC Hospital, where he was declared dead.
