ABSU Blames Policy Failures for West Karbi Anglong Violence, Urges Dialogue

Amid ongoing unrest in West Karbi Anglong, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Wednesday blamed flawed government policies and lack of timely dialogue for the violence.

ABSU president Dipen Boro said the Sixth Schedule was meant to protect tribal rights and warned that compromising it for vote-bank politics leads to conflict. He expressed sorrow over the deaths of two protesters and injuries to several police personnel, urging peaceful protests and immediate talks for a lasting solution.

The unrest escalated after an arson attack on the residence of KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang, with protests linked to demands for eviction of encroachers from tribal belts. Additional forces have been deployed to restore order.
