Assam Police arrest 5th student and detain 1 for interrogation on ragging case

Three days after a student of Assam’s Dibrugarh University jumped off the PNGB hostel building to escape ragging on Sunday, police arrested the fifth suspect and detained another student for interrogation.

Earlier, police had arrested four suspects from the PNGB Hostel. Police, however, had said the prime accused, Rahul Chetry, was still on the run. The Dibrugarh University authorities had rusticated 18 students for their involvement in the case.

Police had said that Anand Sharma jumped from the two-storied hostel building to escape ragging, adding that he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

“We are inquiring about the matter and are going to take strict action against the culprits,” said Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University.
