Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam announced in the state assembly that Assam has transitioned from being a dependent state to a contributory one. Assam’s contribution to the national GDP has reached 2%, and the state is now self-sufficient in covering monthly salaries of state employees, amounting to Rs 2,400 crore. The CM highlighted Assam’s economic growth, with the GDP increasing from Rs 4.93 lakh to Rs 5.7 lakh and a target of reaching Rs 6.43 lakh by 2024–25. The state’s budget expenditure has risen significantly, allowing for increased development without imposing additional taxes. The government’s focus includes women’s empowerment, poverty alleviation, and providing more facilities for state scheme beneficiaries. Measures are being taken to protect tribal populations, and initiatives like Mission Basundhara 3.0 aim to provide land pattas to specific communities without proof of residence. The CM emphasized providing jobs without financial burden and highlighted the government’s success in lifting 80 lakh people out of poverty, with plans to further reduce the percentage of people below the poverty line.
