HC refuses to stay FIR against Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas

Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV on Wednesday moved the Gauhati High Court, seeking quashing of the FIR filed against him by recently expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta alleging harassment by the former for the last six months.

Earlier on Sunday, an Assam Police team led by joint commissioner (in charge) of Guwahati Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar served a notice on Srinivas at his Bengaluru residence asking him to appear before the investigating officer at 11 am on May 2 for questioning in connection with the case filed by Dutta.

The FIR against Srinivas was filed at the Dispur police station in Guwahati on Thursday. He was slapped with the charges of ‘act intended to insult the modesty of a woman’, ‘wrongful restraint’, ‘assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty’, ‘sexual harassment’ and ‘criminal intimidation’ among others under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant charges under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
