Istanbul boom tourism activity hotels Occupancy hits 90 percent

Istanbul is enjoying a boom in tourism activity that has brought more than 10 million foreign tourists to the city in the first eight months, boosting the occupancy rate in hotels to 90 percent.

In August alone, 1.7 million foreign tourists visited the city, which saw foreign tourist arrivals hit 10.2 million in January-August, said Governor Ali Yerlikaya, citing official data.

Russians were at the top of the foreign visitors’ list, followed by Germans, Iranians, Saudis and U.S nationals, according to the governor.
