Meghalaya plans to spend Rs 1000 crore on sports infrastructure

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced on Thursday that close to Rs 1000 crore will be spent over the next five years to build sports infrastructure across the state. He claimed that the government has spent more than Rs 400 crore in the last five years, compared to the previous 45 years.

The Chief Minister also announced that the government will upgrade 25 football playgrounds in the state with artificial turfs, and that various sporting activities are being given a boost to further develop, so that the youth can take full advantage of the ongoing sports programmes.

He also announced that the Meghalaya Games 2023 will be held in Tura this year, with over 3000 athletes from across the state expected to participate.
