Protests Erupt Over Minor’s Alleged Gang-Rape in Demow

Two suspects, Bhaiti Tapna and Sunil Tapna, were detained in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a minor in Demow, Sivasagar. Police are interrogating them to identify a third accused.

Protests erupted as civil society groups criticized delays in arrests, demanding justice and condemning police inefficiency. Demonstrators accused authorities of inaction and failing to seize the vehicle used in the abduction.

The incident occurred on November 22 when the minor was abducted in a red vehicle. A case under the POCSO Act has been registered, and the victim is being treated at Sivasagar Civil Hospital.
