Supreme Court Urges Swift Completion of Kaziranga Elevated Corridor

The Supreme Court has directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite constructing a 34-km elevated corridor in Kaziranga National Park. The corridor aims to ensure seamless wildlife movement between two parts of the park, crucial for the one-horned rhinoceros.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan emphasized full stakeholder cooperation for the wildlife-friendly project. Assam’s government informed the court that the corridor is a priority under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, with the detailed project report underway.

The National Board for Wildlife has approved diverting 20 hectares of forest for the project, which has a budget allocation of ₹5,500 crore.
