Vote Counting Begins for Assam By-Elections in Five Constituencies
Counting for the November 13 Assam by-elections in five assembly constituencies—Samaguri, Bongaigaon, Behali, Dholai, and Sidli—began at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
In Samaguri, BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarma leads Congress’ Tanzil Hussain by 71 votes. In Bongaigaon, AGP’s Diptimayee Choudhury is ahead by 69 votes over Congress’ Brajenjit Singha. The race in Behali is tight, with Congress’ Jayanta Borah leading BJP’s Diganta Ghatowal by just 25 votes.
In Dholai, BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das holds a strong lead of 132 votes over Congress’ Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha. Sidli sees UPPL’s Nirmal Kumar Brahma ahead by 32 votes in a close contest with Congress’ Sanjib Warie and BPF’s Suddho Kumar Basumatary.
A total of 34 candidates contested the by-elections, held to fill seats vacated by MPs elected to the Lok Sabha.
