Assam Inaugurates Orchid Park Near Kaziranga to Boost Tourism

The Assam government has inaugurated a new Orchid Park near Kaziranga National Park to attract and retain more tourists. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said tourist numbers have increased significantly, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the park last year. Currently, visitor numbers are nearing one lakh.
Kaziranga recorded a 35% rise in tourist arrivals in 2025, becoming India’s third most-visited national park. The government aims to encourage tourists to stay longer by adding new attractions.
Developed by the Agriculture Department, the park features over 900 orchid species, seven glass houses, a children’s park, amphitheatre, indigenous food outlets and educational facilities.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to develop nearby attractions such as Numaligarh Temple, Karbi Anglong waterfalls, and an AI-based forest interpretation centre to further boost tourism.
During the visit, Sarma also inaugurated several public projects and announced that orchid expert Mohan Pradhan has developed a new hybrid orchid named “Seujia Kaziranga.”
