Forest Guard Injured in Rhino Attack at Kaziranga National Park; Rushed to Apollo Hospital for Treatment

A forest guard, Pinku Chandra Nath, sustained severe injuries in a one-horned rhino attack while patrolling with an elephant at the Bakpara forest camp in the Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. The incident occurred on Tuesday, leading to the forest official’s initial transfer to Kohora Model Hospital. Due to the severity of injuries and his health condition, he was subsequently referred to Apollo Hospital in Guwahati. The attack unfolded when an adult female rhino chased the patrol elephant, causing both Pinku and an “elephant keeper” to fall off its back. It is speculated that the elephant fled the scene in fear. The forest guard’s proximity to the rhino is believed to have triggered the attack, while the “Mahout” managed to escape.
