GMC Evicts Over 100 Food Stalls in Dighalipukhuri Beautification Drive

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) removed over 100 food stalls, including “Khau Gali,” from Dighalipukhuri as part of a beautification drive led by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation. The initiative aims to restore the historic site’s heritage value.

GMC cited non-compliance with cleanliness and environmental rules as reasons for eviction. Vendors were previously notified to follow guidelines but failed to adhere. The drive has sparked mixed reactions, with concerns over the livelihoods of affected vendors. Authorities advised them to relocate to designated vending zones, while vendors expressed frustration over the sudden displacement.
