Meghalaya teachers will continue their strike after NEP talks fail

The Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) plans to carry on with their strike after talks with University Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla failed. Despite Shukla’s request that they withdraw from the agitation, the Vice Chancellor stated that the university has no intention of changing its decision to implement the National Education Policy (NEP).

Since August 1, teachers from 22 of the 75 colleges affiliated with NEHU have been boycotting the first semester classes of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) in accordance with the NEP, 2020.

During the three-hour meeting, the MCTA urged NEHU Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla to withdraw the July 12 notification for the state’s implementation of the NEP.
