Student and Youth Groups Protest Against Assam’s College Teacher Recruitment Draft Rules

Six student and youth organizations, including SFI and DYFI, protested in Dighalipukhuri on Friday, demanding the withdrawal of Assam’s draft rules for college teacher recruitment. The rules, they argue, centralize control, undermine college autonomy, and prioritize administrative knowledge over subject expertise. Protesters fear the changes could harm higher education and disadvantage economically weaker students. They also raised concerns about the potential loss of UGC funding and the erosion of local governing powers in colleges. The organizations called for the immediate withdrawal of the draft rules.
