Tension escalated in Assam-Meghalaya border area after 6 killed

Tensions flared up along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Wednesday, a day after six people, including a forest guard, were killed in a clash after police intercepted a truck that was allegedly smuggling timber.

Following the clash, Meghalaya suspended mobile internet services in seven districts of the state for 48 hours. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We have ordered a judicial investigation and have referred the matter to the CBI. The Superintendent of Police (SP) has been transferred and local police and forest officials have been placed under suspension.”
