Govt Allocates ₹1,010 Crores for Brahmaputra and Barak River Development

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced a ₹1,010 crore investment for developing Assam’s Brahmaputra and Barak rivers. Projects include 12 floating terminals, two multimodal terminals, and two permanent terminals to boost cargo, passenger movement, and river tourism.

Under the Sagarmala scheme, a ₹96.60 crore slipway in Majuli received approval. Additionally, a riverine religious tourism circuit will connect seven worship sites like Kamakhya Temple and Pandunath Temple via waterways.

Major works include ship repair facilities at Pandu, tourist jetties, and the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route. Maintenance dredging ensures safe navigation on waterways.
