ACCF Targets 100% Cancer Screening in Assam by 2026
Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), South Asia’s largest affordable cancer care network, plans to screen all eligible residents of Assam (aged 30+) within two years. A joint venture of the Assam Government and Tata Trusts, ACCF has already screened over 10.48 lakh people, confirming 279 cancer cases and referring 1,428 suspected cases for further tests.
Assam reports high cancer incidences due to late detection, limited healthcare access, and tobacco use, especially in underserved regions like tea gardens. ACCF integrates its outreach with national programs to improve early detection, tobacco cessation, and palliative care.
Trained dentists and nurses conduct cancer screenings in 14 districts, with plans to expand to all 35 districts by December 2024. Early detection of breast, cervical, and oral cancers—responsible for 34% of India’s cancer cases—can significantly improve survival rates.
